Towards a Climate Deal: Binding and Global?
Simone Ruiz is European Policy Director at the International Emissions Trading Association (IETA) and represents the Geneva-based organization in Brussels. She is responsible for all policy issues related to the implementation of the EU’s emissions trading scheme and interacts with EU institutions, governments and the private sector to encourage cost-efficient and effective climate change strategies.
IETA has been the leading international voice of the business community on the subject of carbon markets since 2000 and represents 170 member companies from across the carbon trading cycle.
Simone joined IETA in 2009, previous to that she was working as Economist in the Brussels-based European business federation – BUSINESSEUROPE – on climate and fiscal policy.
Following a university degree in economics from the HEC Lausanne/Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona and a MSc in Politics from the University of Edinburgh, she had started her career at the European Central Bank in Frankfurt.
Born in 1980 in Freiburg, Germany, Simone is a native German speaker and is fluent in Spanish, French, English and Dutch.
